The A4 was really the car that in the late 1990's revitalized the Audi brand. Audi has been way ahead of the curve when it comes to the compact luxury sedan segment. The A4 has long had a small displacement fuel efficient engine and permanent Quattro AWD. Its just recently that the offerings from BMW and Mercedes-Benz at this level come with the options previously mentioned.
